About Us...
The Hidden Harbour Story
Hidden Harbour Golf Course started as an idea in the mind of Paul Geiger, who owned a wooded tract of approximately 70 acres. Paul sought out Mike Gogola, a PGA Golf Pro at a nearby course, for his counsel. Mike surveyed the scene and became equally enthusiastic. As a result, they formed a partnership in September of 1989 to begin work on the project.
They agreed that the course should be both challenging and fun for the average golfer. They planned the layout to include five ponds as well as an abundance of waste bunkers. Each hole would have multiple tees with placements to allow the golfer to play to his/her level of skill.
Over the next two and a half years, the course was built by the two men, working from sunrise to sunset with a minimum of outside help. Tim Furness of Elkton, shaped and formed the final layout in July, 1991. Tim now operates his own firm, Tim Furness Golf Construction, Inc.
The greens and fairways were seeded in the spring of 1991 and are watered by an automatic sprinkler system. Hidden Harbour Golf Course opened for play on Saturday, May 2, 1992.
Mitch's at Hidden Harbour was owned and operated by Mitch Gogola until it changed hands in the year 2000. That year, his daughter, Michelle Morris purchased the operation. Michelle is a former school teacher with a Master's degree in Special Education. She graduated from Schoolcraft's Culinary Arts Program and is now a Certified Executive Pastry Chef.
When Mitch originally planned the restaurant, it was to be a two thousand square foot building, designed to seat about 50 people. As the beauty and layout of the golf course became apparent, the decision was made to design and build a facility that would be equally impressive in serving families and visitors in the Thumb area.
The facility was designed and built by Caseville Lumber Company as a 6700 square foot restaurant and grille with seating capacity of over two hundred people. The layout makes it ideal to accommodate weddings, receptions and business meetings. Mitch's at Hidden Harbour opened to the public on May 2, 1992.
